Dental crowns and bridges will often be recommended when a patient has experienced severe dental damage or when a tooth or teeth have been lost. Through the use of a crown or a bridge, we can restore the appearance of your smile and bring back the ability to chew and speak properly.
Our crowns and bridges are all custom-made using impression, and therefore, require at least two visits to our office. During the first visit, impressions will be taken. We will send the impressions to a dental laboratory so that a custom restoration can be created. Once it is complete, the patient will return to our office to have their restoration installed.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that can restore the appearance and function of a tooth. When used to restore a damaged tooth, a crown will cover what remains of the existing structure and protect it from further damage. A crown can also be attached to a dental implant to replace a missing tooth entirely. Crowns are also used on healthy teeth to support dental bridges. Before a dental crown is placed, some preparations must be made. If the crown is to cover an existing tooth, we must remove some tooth enamel so the crown will fit properly. If it is to replace a missing tooth, a dental implant will first need to be surgically placed.
Dental bridges are used to replace multiple teeth. On healthy teeth at each end of the bridge, there will be a dental crown. These two crowns are used to support the “bridge” that consists of replacement teeth. Bridges provide excellent functionality and look natural.
